Southerly breezes returned Friday and brought more comfortable weather for fishing.
While the fish were not exactly jumping into boats, there were some fair catches reported.
Bulldog’s Bait Shop reported Kim Rall’s catch of a 31-inch bull red and several whiting from the beach front.
Dead shrimp was the bait and the red was tagged and retained.
Bulldog cited reliable sources in reporting trout being caught along the beach front rock groins Friday.
Russell Wade fished near the entrance to the Crash Basin off Offatts Bayou and caught four sand trout and three whiting using live shrimp for bait.
Today is the beginning of March and fortunately marks the end of February.
This year, February has to go down as one of the poorest for fishing in years.
While our winter weather is not over, as another of a series of cold fronts is forecast for early next week, warmer weather definitely is on the way.
Stan Blazyk, The Daily News’ weather expert, gave an update on the long range forecast for this spring.
Blazyk said the National Weather Service is forecasting a warmer and drier than normal spring this year.
That tells me that there is hope on the horizon for many fishable days to come!
