There were lots of good fishing reports from Sunday, and most were from the offshore boats.

Capt. Paul Stanton and relief mate Eric Gonzalez of Aqua Safari Charters hosted the Dennis Everett party of 12 aboard the Island Girl on Sunday and fished 30 miles out.

Using Spanish sardines and a “top secret” lure for ling, the group landed full limits of red snapper, five keeper ling to 92 pounds, which was a new ling record for the Island Girl, kings to 30 pounds along with sharks, Spanish mackerel and bluefish.

Aqua Safari’s other boat, the Sea Trek, captained by Mike Malloy and first mate Bobby Boaz, hosted a group to an offshore trip 17 miles out.

Among the fish caught were 12 kings and six sharks, both limits for those species.

Galveston Party Boats had both of their boats offshore this weekend.

The New Buccaneer under the command of Capt. Matthew “Smitty” Smith made trips Friday through Sunday and returned with a wide variety of fish each day.

Sunday’s opening day of red snapper season resulted in a boat limit (196) of red snapper, 249 vermilions, seven kings, three little tuna, two ling, a 74-pound Warsaw Grouper along with a variety of other reef fish.

Capt. Cody Carter took the Cavalier offshore Sunday and ended up with a catch of 116 red snapper (boat limit), 12 Dorado, seven sharks and five vermilion snapper.

Action has been hot and heavy at the 61st Street Fishing Pier with all of the clear water in the surf lately.

Austin Kimbrough reported a nice-sized triple tail being landed from the pier by Ryan Rice.

According to Kimbrough’s report, fishing has been excellent with regular catches of Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, large spadefish, sharks, reds, black drum and lots of specks.

Speaking of the 61st Street Pier, Luis Decker IV of Aunt Margie’s Bait Camp sent a picture of Jamison Burkett’s unusual encounter at the pier.

The angler from Caddo hooked a large jack crevalle that he fought for nearly an hour before the fight stopped.

Burkett reeled in his line and on the end was the front half of the large jack.

Obviously something really big bit the fish in half, probably a huge shark.

Robert Schwartz fished on Eddie Barr’s boat Sunday and landed a 6-foot sail fish about 40 miles out.
