There have been a lot of good fishing reports lately, and it stands to reason — a southeast wind and strong tides have prevailed for several days now. While the last three days have been single-tide change days, the strength of the early morning tide has been good.
The moderate to occasionally strong east/southeast wind has hindered smaller boats from hitting the Gulf of Mexico in pursuit of red snapper and other fish.
Monday
morning, Dean Silvers found the east wind howling, so he and his friend
Bill Zimmer chose Greens Lake. Fishing the marsh area, the anglers
landed six trout, three undersized reds and a 19-inch flounder.
Bulldog’s
Bait Shop reported some excellent catches by the Keyes family. Joshua
Keyes landed a limit of trout from the surf Sunday, while Raymond Keyes
and Ed Brown fished the crash basin off Offatts Bayou and caught seven
trout and a red. Live shrimp accounted for all of the fish.
Brenda
Rilat at Lee’s Bait and Tackle near the Texas City Dike reported a nice
catch by Elvin Maxwell, Greg Chapa and Dog Maxwell. The three anglers
fished with live shrimp and caught five sheepshead, three trout and a
bull red. No mention of where they fished; however, most of their
reports come from the Bolivar Gas Wells.
Along
the beach front Spanish mackerel, trout, jack crevalle, croaker and
whiting were being caught by anglers at the 61st Street Fishing Pier.
Trout
action under the lights continues to be excellent in the hours just
before daybreak. Sunday morning, Gina Hemphill and Rodney Moore caught
13 trout and two reds — a slot and a throwback — while fishing off a
lighted dock along Harborside. The action was hot and heavy starting
around 4 a.m.
Capt.
Jill Williams hosted a 12-hour offshore trip for 54 anglers aboard the
party boat Texsun II on Sunday. Fishing about 40 miles southeast of the
jetties they landed limits of red snapper, kings, sharks and a 55-pound
ling.
