Willem Basson, who is visiting
from Pongola, South Africa, caught three of the “jailbirds” while
fishing from a friend’s dock on Offatts Bayou on Monday.
Ted Westerman fished from the 61st Street launching ramp Monday night and landed four sand trout using dead shrimp for bait.
Oscar Knight and Frank Miller
fished Moses Lake on Tuesday and found the action on the slow side.
Their tally for the morning was two sand trout, both caught on live
shrimp fished on the bottom.
Last Saturday, Capt. Jill
Williams hauled 55 anglers out to the Old Buccaneer Field area aboard
the party boat Capt. John. Fishing in near perfect conditions in green
water under light winds, the group landed 110 red snapper to 13 pounds
along with black drum and Gulf trout.
Looking at the forecast at press
time Tuesday, it appears that today and Thursday might present a couple
of windows of good conditions for fishing. Look for speckled trout to
make an appearance in fishing reports as the fish should be feeding in
upper West Bay. Black drum, reds and sheepshead likely will be good bets
for action around the jetties.
