Now that the Christmas season is winding down, anglers can resume their focus on fishing. I was out of state for most of the last two weeks and am now getting back into the fishing mode.
While the weather over the past two weeks was not the best for fishing, there were a few windows of fair conditions.
December 30 there was a
flurry of action on trout in upper West Bay and around the causeway
area.
Jetty Joe at Galveston Bait and Tackle reported some nice catches of trout, along with a few reds and a lone flounder.

Later this year in March
and early April, we likely will be discussing some of the early
springtime fishing spots in Galveston County, and among them will be the
upper reaches of Clear Creek.
Beginning in early March, anglers start reporting catches of various fresh water fish from areas of the creek above Clear Lake.

Last week, Clear Creek made
the news as a pending state record channel catfish was caught there by
an angler named Terrance Rentz.
The fish weighed 47.98
pounds and was caught near Walter Hall Park. The current state record
and soon to be old state record is 36.5 pounds and was set in 1965.
This weekend, waterfowl
hunting appears to be a better bet than fishing; however, there is
another option for fishermen and boaters and that is the Houston Boat,
Sport and Travel Show, which runs through Jan. 11 at NRG Center.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $4 for children six to 12. Children five and under attend for free. Parking is $10, cash only.
